2008 marks the year of reform in China's telecommunications industry. Merger and acquisition gives birth to three major market players with equivalent national network resources, strength and scale, business operation capabilities and competitiveness.
It is the inevitable development trend in the telecommunications industry to effectively integrate fixed network and mobile network, which requires operators to transform themselves from strategies to businesses. Three operators develop differentiated services based on whole business in line with their respective background and existing network resources and customer resources:
- China Telecom focuses on improving its overall competitiveness and brand image via the opportunity of multi-task bundling and fixed mobile convergence after acquiring mobile business
- China Mobile shall diversify its basic businesses and transform from "Mobile Information Expert" to "Comprehensive Information Expert" after acquiring the license of Whole Business
- China Unicom shall improve its comprehensive competitiveness through business innovation, brand integration and restructuring from integration of businesses with organizational structure
Internet is the main competitive market. It is the future trend of offering comprehensive solutions to customers by integrating IT and ICT while pure voice and bearer services shall only occupy the secondary position, so operators shall cover more extensive value-added businesses and services.
Whole Business operators can explore business support models in the new business system, e.g. core business based on IP, flow operation business and content value-added services.
